The Kodak Hula Show is the longest continuing commercial attraction in Waikiki. The show has been a fine example of hula and aloha spirit since 1937, and a staple of many first-time visitors to Hawaii. The Kodak Corporation has recently discontinued its sponsorship of the show, but it lives on with generous grants from the Hogan Family foundation.

The show is constantly evolving, so it continues to be fresh and entertaining. The most current version features several decades of Hawaii's hula history from the most traditional to the glitzy neon cellophane skirts that were popular in the 1950's. The show features forty dancers and musicians from the Royal Hawaiian Girls Glee Club some of whom have been with the show for many years and all perform with 'aloha' in their hearts.

The hour-long show is held in an open aired shelterless grassy area adjacent to the Waikiki Shell. The backdrop of Diamond Head makes this setting stunning. For those who aren't steady enough to climb to the very top of the aluminum bleachers, or who would rather avoid the 'standing room only' syndrome, it is highly recommended to arrive at least 45 minutes early to queue up for the best seats. A hat and sunscreen for sun protection should be considered a requirement.

A portion of the show encourages participation (read: Don hula skirt and swing hips 'till silly!). To participate can easily be the highlight of the day, if not the vacation, especially during the post- vacation wrap-up report and video.

The wonderful setting and the free admission make this shows a favorite to see again. Few attractions have such a long-standing history and you can't beat the price.

Located near the corner of Kalakaua and Monserrat avenues, on the grounds of the WaikïkiShell. The entrance to the amphitheatre is located across the parking lot adjacent to the box office. The venue is within easy walking distance from most Waikiki hotels. Or for $1.00, you can board the #8, #19, #20, #58, or #47 in the direction toward Diamond Head anywhere along Kuhio Avenue. Disembark at the Kapiolani Park bus stop.
